The Grammys this year was filled with breathtaking dresses and stunning makeup. Although the fantastic musical performances obviously took center stage, our eyes were mostly focused on all of the makeup looks throughout the night. This year, the trend was flowing, loose hair and smokey eyes. In years past, the stars have opted for more natural eyes, so we loved seeing the celebs turn on their smokey. Check out our 5 favorite makeup looks from the red carpet. Were any of these your faves as well? If not which makeup looks are you still talking about?
We had to start our list with Selena because of the killer smokey eyes she had on. She paired an amazing chocolate brown eye makeup look with bronzed cheeks and neutral lips. To re-create this brown smokey cat-eye, you’ll need a few different shades of chocolate brown, black liner and lots of mascara. Start by blending the lightest brown shade into the crease, blending up and out. Next, take the darkest brown shade and blend it over the top of the first shade, blending further out and up. Apply your black liner along the top and bottom lash line, making sure to smudge the liner to give it a smoldering finish. Next, apply a liquid liner over the top of your smudged liner to give it even more intensity. Apply a few coats of mascara to the top and bottom lashes. Use a lash comb and comb through lashes from the base to the tips after each coat to remove any clumps. False lashes optional.
“WOW” is the first word that comes to mind when looking at Alessandra’s amazing green smokey eyes she wore to the Grammys. We commend her for stepping out of the box and doing something unique and sultry. Because her eye makeup was so striking, Alessandra paired her eye makeup with muted cheeks and lips. To get this look, it’s all about blending and smudging to create the kind of smokiness that Alessandra has going on here. To re-create the look, you will need a few different shades of green, ranging from a dark green to a pale, silver-y green. First, highlight with the lightest green in the inner corner. Take the second lightest shade and apply across the lid, outwards at an angle and almost all of the way to the inner corner. Continue to layer the green shadows to create a gradient of color. The key is to stop the color farther away from the inner crease each time, so it creates a sort of ombre effect. Make sure that with each layer you apply, you are blending thoroughly so there are no harsh lines.
We loved Lady Gaga’s unique makeup look for the Grammys paying tribute to the late David Bowie. She wore a bright blue smokey eyeshadow look, complete with blue glitter, bright pink cheeks and a nude lip. To get Gaga’s daring blue look, first start by applying a vibrant blue eyeshadow in a rounded shape, almost all of the way to your eyebrows. Next, apply glitter glue to the lashline and following the curve of the eyeshadow in a “C” shape. Apply blue glitter over the top of the glitter glue while it is still tacky using a small brush. Next, with a small liner brush, apply a bit of a blue eyeshadow to the bottom lash line, halfway across to complete the look.
We couldn’t complete a Grammys makeup list without talking about Adele. The soulful singer stunned yet again with gorgeous bold brows, a simple, but always purrfect cat-eye and flawless skin. To get Adele’s magnificent brows, you’ll need a brow gel and a brow shadow. Using an angled brush, go over your brows with a shade close to your brow color, to make the brows appear thicker. Next, take a brow gel and, starting at the outer half of the brow, fill in the brows and shape them accordingly. A couple of great tips to having red carpet brows everyday is one, never try and match your brows exactly to your hair color. Two, don’t try to make your eyebrows appear like a different shape than they naturally are. Three, when filling in your brows, you should only accentuate the natural shape. For the eyes, use liquid liner to create a simple cat eye makeup look starting at the outer eye and working the liner all the way to the inner corner. It should be thicker at the outer eyelid and tapered as you move closer towards the inner eye. Then, use individual false lashes to create the lash look that Adele has going on. Apply a peach colored blush to the cheeks and a pinky-peach lipstick to the lips. Finish with a clear gloss.
Carrie was certainly channeling her inner rockstar at this years Grammy’s with this super cool smokey eye look! Did you know Carrie usually does her own makeup for concerts and red carpets? Carrie paired a super smokey and lashy eye makeup look with bare lips and rosy cheeks. To get Carrie’s look, start by applying a thick line of black liner along the upper lashline. Using a smudging brush, begin blending up towards the crease. Continue to layer the liner and blend until you get your desired intensity. Take a chocolate brown shadow and apply on the bottom lash line to spice the look up even more. Next, take a shimmery highlight color to the inner corner and browbone. For this look, you’ll definitely want to add some sexy lash strips. Finish by applying a rose colored blush to the cheekbones.
