This season, the eye makeup trends are really intense, wild, colorful, joyful, playful… it makes sense since fashion and beauty are always in sync. Velvets still hold strong as well as patterns and prints and unusual styles like frayed and cropped denim in what feels like endless combinations. And the beauty is just as wild and free.
Here are a few of trends that will have you reaching for your brushes! FUN is the word for Spring 2017.
1. Eye Gloss
Did you see all of the sexy eye gloss on the faces of Gigi Hadid and other top models this season? It’s fresh, bright and basically perfect for the spring. Apply eye gloss to your lids and finish with a good dose of smudged eyeliner for more of a rockstar effect. It’s a very forgiving style because it’s meant to seem naturally messed so you end up with a lot more room for “error”. You’ll have seductive and dewy smudged eyes in seconds.

2. Watercolor Eyes
Eyes painted with beautiful bold hues blinked their way down the spring catwalks. The colors were smudged or otherwise altered to be toned down for a pretty, watercolored paint effect. This look works best with eye makeup that has some luminosity to it, cream eyeshadow products are effective too. Watercolored eyes appeared in so many different versions so feel free to create your own ideas of the trend too. We saw everything from watercolored ombre eyes to multi-colored eye makeup beauty.

3. Glitter Eye Makeup
Glitter lips are back but now they’re also showing up on the eyes. Grab some glitter eyeshadows and eyeliners to incorporate them into your regular routine.

4. The Dark Kitten
The kitten eye is just a smaller version of the cat eye. Makes sense, right? It ends just a little distance past the ends of your eyes for an eye makeup style that’s entirely different but offers a lot of the same benefits – more drama, more sex appeal and additional attention for your eyes.
Kitten eyes have become a little more fierce this season thanks to a good dose of dark gel eyeliner. Choose an intensely dark hue for an extra layer of mystery and intrigue for your eyes.

5. 80’s Makeup
Match your makeup to the current 80’s sartorial trend. Makeup artists have gone wild for the decade with a focus on brightly colored eyeshadows, lipsticks and blushes. Add a few elements for a chic reference or go full-on 80’s fashion editorial display with a palette of electric purples, reds, yellows and blues.
If you weren’t yet old enough (or born) to remember the larger-than-life beauty trends of the era, have fun diving into the treasure trove of archives to be found in fashion photography books and online. Pay special attention to fashion photo shoots by photographer Helmut Newton and the retro makeup styles featured in ads and runway shows from Chanel, Versace and Yves Saint Laurent.

6. Experimental Fantasy
This trend basically says anything goes as long as it’s based in fantasy. Reach for really out there eye makeup colors and experiment, bringing your wildest ideas to life. The Spring 2017 shows presented looks as diverse as brightly colored brows and eye gloss in bright and unexpected shades of violets and tangerine.
Now, more than ever, is the moment to try any of those crazy eye colors you’ve had in mind. We love to use eyeliner stencils for multi-colored, multi-layered eye makeup ideas. It makes it a lot easier to work in several different colors, shapes and lines in a single look so you can push the boundaries with your makeup artistry. There are even specific eyeliner stencils made just for creating cat and smokey eyes.
