3 Easy Steps for Getting Amber Heard's Bronze Smokey Eye Look

Smokey eyes in colors are standing strong this summer with some of the sexiest bronze eye makeup looks we've seen straight from fashion week. Shimmer and metallic colors in creams and shadows that you can apply directly to your eyelid with your fingers for an easy eye makeup look that's beach worthy, or your favorite eye shadow brushes for a more polished application. Amber Heard shows us just how sexy a smokey eye can look with a bronze hue in place of the usual dark and smoldering.

And, this is also a look that is perfect to wear for day and then add a little contour in the crease to bump up your look for night. Pretty simple, pretty gorgeous and definitely a look we will be turning to more often than not this summer. There are a lot of ways to get the look and pretty much all of them look great.

1. To keep it simple for day you can use one color in a bronze hue and sweep along the eyelid and underneath. A cream smudge pot or cream shimmer works great for this, plus most are water resistant so if you're already fighting the hot weather and humidity like we are here in Los Angeles this is a great choice. You can use your fingers to apply (index or middle fingers works best) and just tap the color along eyelid stopping just below the crease. If you prefer a brush to apply you can use a cream eye shadow brush or concealer brush either is fine.

When using an eyeshadow in a metallic or shimmer, we actually prefer to start by adding the color directly to the eyelid with our index or middle finger and pressing the color into the lid to build the color and at the same time avoid flaking. Then once we have the desired intensity we use our eye shadow brush to soften any hard lines and blend.

2. For an easy day look this is where we would stop and then move on to adding a dark brown or soft black liner along the lashline. Pencil, gel, or liquid is perfectly fine, that is up to you. Mascara in a rich brown is a nice change but if you can't live without your black that's good too.

3. To take your bronze smokey eye look from day to night is easy. Using a darker color in a brown or taupe, apply directly to the crease using a blender brush and move the brush back and forth until the desired color is achieved. Sweep the same color underneath, and add your concealer to finish the look. You can highlight the brow bone with a bisque or banana shadow depending on your skin tone in a matte finish or leave as is. Finish your eyes by adding a light shimmer shadow or highlighter to the inner "v" of eyes and blend color into your lid. Comb through your lashes first and then add an extra coat of a black mascara. And that's it. Gorgeous and ready to paint the town pretty!

Pro Tip: To make your summer smokey eye look last throughout the day, start with an eyeshadow primer first before adding any color to the lids. Then apply your cream shadow, smudge color, or shadow. You can also top your cream or smudge color on the lids with a shimmer or metallic shadow in the same color if you prefer less of a shiny finish.
